Work begins on the agreed date

Protection, all areas to be used during the process of carrying out the work shall be suitably protected, this includes all transit areas, such as stairs, hall ways, adjoining rooms etc.

Preparation, Dan’s favourite part, this is what he really excels at, distinguishing him from others. With a meticulous eye for detail, every imperfection shall be hunted down, like a predator hunting its prey.

All imperfections found are repaired, holes filled, stains blocked, problem surfaces dealt with, heavy brush or roller marks removed, failed or cracked caulk removed and replaced prior to painting, in some cases such as architrave or skirting being in such a poor condition, replaced.

Portable lighting is often used from different angles, allowing imperfections to be found that may not under general lighting conditions.
Detail sanding, handheld sanding profiles are used to maintain the shape and structure of any decorative finishes, such as bull noses on window sills.

The entire prep process will be repeated until Dan is satisfied it will meet the desired requirements, for a high quality finish.

Using market leading Mirka M class dustless sanding equipment, there will be no airborne dust during the sanding process!
Every surface will be sanded, to create a smooth, flat starting point. The finish is only as good as the start!

Painting and Decorating

Once all prep work is complete, it’s time to get everything looking amazing again!

All woodwork will be primed with a suitable primer as required, knots sealed if needed, if having wallpaper, walls will be lined.

Any bare plaster will be primed, all surfaces will then be ready for the first topcoat. After the first topcoat, it is another opportunity for Dan to hunt down any remaining imperfections that may have been missed, tiny holes etc that need to be filled, as the first coat can often highlight any small imperfections.

Only once everything meets Dan’s high standards, the second topcoat will be applied.

Work is complete

With all work complete, protection is removed, work areas are hoovered and surfaces wiped clean. Leaving everything spotless.

Product research and health benefits

Over the years products have changed, the biggest change you will notice is oil based gloss no longer being the paint of choice for professionals.

With the advancement in paint technology, along with a raised awareness of the health risks, associated with oil based paints and the high VOC content, that strong smell lingering for hours, that’s the VOC’s.

High VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) levels pose significant health risks, primarily causing eye, nose, and throat irritation, headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Long-term, high-level exposure can lead to chronic damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system, and some VOCs are linked to cancer.

Acute (Short-Term) Health Effects:

  • Irritation: Eyes, nose, and throat irritation are common.
  • Neurological Symptoms: Headaches, dizziness, memory impairment, and loss of coordination.
  • Physical Distress: Nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.
  • Respiratory: Difficulty breathing (dyspnea) and asthma exacerbation.

Chronic (Long-Term) Health Effects:

  • Organ Damage: Chronic exposure can cause liver, kidney, and central nervous system damage.
  • Carcinogenicity: Some VOCs, such as benzene and formaldehyde, are known or suspected human carcinogens.
  • Chronic Illness: Increased risk of developing respiratory illnesses or allergies.

It is due to these health risks, Dan moved away from oil based and high VOC products, to only using water based products, containing low or no VOC’s.

Due to these changes numerous new products have come to market, Dan is constantly testing and researching new products and has done for many years, ensuring every product used meets not only his high standards, that they also meet all health and safety requirements.

It is only through over 20 years’ experience, Dan is able to determine exactly what he requires from all products and equipment used daily.

From Dustless Sanding equipment, down to the choice of filler and rollers, every step of the process is designed to create and maintain a healthy work environment and flawless finish.

Spraying, fans and air filters are used while spraying, to ensure a healthy work area.

You can be sure every step of the way, work will be carried out to the very highest standards of quality and health and safety.
